Revitalising adult football in Cheshire – Chester & Wirral Football League

A video showing how the Chester & Wirral League are helping to revitalise adult football in Cheshire.

The expectations of what an adult player wants from 11v11 football is constantly evolving. In order to support the retention and growth of new adult teams, Cheshire FA has been encouraging our leagues to consider introducing new formats of 11v11 and provide flexibility within their structure where possible.

One example of where this is currently successful, is through the great work of the Chester and Wirral Football League (CWFL), which we highlighted to all our adult leagues at our recent League Development Day.

This video, as told by league secretary Paul Graham, outlines that by introducing some adaptations, the league has made a positive impact on adult participation in their area and reinvigorated local desire to play football, evidenced by the increase in teams numbers from a low of 17 to currently having 72 and counting.

We hope that by showcasing the work of the CWFL it can inspire other leagues in the county, and regionally and nationally, that by adapting and listening to the needs of the players there is no reason why adult football can’t continue to thrive.
